Office Arts and Crafts - Desk Doom

Office Arts and Crafts - Thimble Daleks!

Equipment: Thimbles, drawing pins.

Push the drawing pin into the thimble and VOILA! A Thimble Dalek.

This game went on for a surprisingly long time....

Powerpoint.

When asked to create or check a powerpoint presentation, try to resist the urge to slip in something unexpected. I was  recently asked to source some "Inspirational quotes" for use at an upcoming conference, and had to really force myself not to include this...

Office Arts and Crafts - The Whalepler...

Office Game #3 Email Disclaimer Roulette...

Equipment: One PC, One email account.

This is a simple one, go to settings on your email account, and change the company email disclaimer to something a little more provocative, wait to see if any one notices. I have had the following one on mine for three weeks now, not a single comment...

Sent this to print in my boss's office, fingers crossed...

It's important to manage your own workload...

Office Game #2 ‘Timelines’

Equipment: One telephone, one internal telephone directory, one quiet office with access to Wikipedia.

  1. Scan through the internal telephone directory, picking out four digit extension numbers that relate to years of historical significance. Ensuring that none of them are bosses or people who might get you fired.
  2. Spend a short amount of time researching those years on Wikipedia, jot down some notes on important facts and figures, maybe even draft up a short ‘script’.
  3. Dial up a ‘year’, frantically announce that you are calling from the distant future to deliver a stark warning about what they are about to endure – Examples: call x1347 “THE BLACK DEATH IS COMING!” “x1666 “GET OUT OF LONDON, THERE’S GOING TO BE A HORRIBLE FIRE! WARN YOUR FRIENDS!” - Before wishing them luck, and abruptly hanging up.

Office Game #1 - The Glitch

Equipment – One brightly coloured ring binder, one ballpoint pen and one patsy.

1) Pick the most paranoid co-worker in your office. Ideally one who cannot see your desk from where they are sitting.

2) Stand up; collect your ring binder and pen, put the ring binder underneath your left armpit and walk towards the co-worker’s desk. Tell them you are: “Just popping down to the copy room for five minutes”, wait for their reply, respond with an asinine joke about the weather, do a small forced laugh, tap three times on your ring binder with the ballpoint pen, then leave. Come back in the office straight away, from a different door (so they cannot see you return) and sit back at your desk.

3) Repeat this, exactly this, ring binder under the same armpit, stand at the same spot in front of their desk, repeat the same “popping out…” excuse, the same joke, the same forced laugh - followed by the same three taps on the ring binder with the ballpoint pen - every forty five minutes or so, throughout the course of the day.

4) Wait for them to explode.
